In Catholic Churches, Lenten, also known as Kuwaresma, is one of the most important seasons. It's a means to remember our Lord Jesus Christ's sorrows and sacrifices when he died on the cross and rose three days later, washing away the world's sins. A lot has changed since the pandemic began. People were only allowed to attend mass on Sundays, and other traditions were outlawed. Let's take a look at how the Lenten season was observed during the pandemic.
Looking back before the pandemic, lenten season is observed with street processions, the Way of the Cross, sermons and prayers meditating on Jesus' Seven Last Words (“Siete Palabras”) and the staging of Senákulo. As I remember, during the Lenten season me and my family are attending mass, joining the processions and when we are at home we are watching movies about Jesus christ. I also remember, there are times that my parents remind me to not eat meat. Then, sometimes we will go to La Union and have a picnic with my lola, aunties, uncles and cousins on my mother's side.

As I always say, pandemic changes everything. Instead of going to church to attend mass, we just stay at home and watch and listen to mass on a TV or radio. We don't join street processions. We can't go to La Union because of the travel protocols and for our safety also. There's a lot of changes but I realised that staying at home during lenten season isn't that bad. It leads me to bond with myself and talk or communicate with God. During this time, I learned how to forgive and let go, to sacrifice, to ask for forgiveness, strengthen my faith and to offer everything to god. Family bonding is really great and fun, but bonding with God and yourself is fulfilling and amazing.
Overall, lenten season this pandemic isn't that bad experience. I believe that lent isn't about the outings and travels, it's about you, god, and jesus christ. Lent is the season to observe and commemorate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God, our Saviour and Redeemer.
